New York City Concert Venues

See also: New York Trips & Travel, Dark Eating

Don't forget to always check Citysearch or listen to 880 am (traffic on the 8s) or 1010 am (traffic on the 1s), there are parades way too often in the city and they really make traffic unbearable sometimes.

Acme Under Ground - teeny tiny venue, I've seen Chemlab and Hanzel Und Gretyl there in past times. 9 Great Jones St, NYC 10012, (212) 420-1934.

Beacon Theatre, 2124 Broadway at 74th st, New York, NY 10023, (212) 496-7070.

The Continental, 25 Third Ave, bet St Marks & 9th Sts, NYC, (212) 529-6924. Small venue for local bands and small scenes.

Downtime - 251 W 30th St (Between 7th and 8th Aves) New York, NY 10001, (212) 695-2747.

CBGBs is a small venue for shows. Located at 313 Bowery between 1st & 2nd Sts, NYC, 212-677-0455.

The Hammerstein Ballroom is a concert hall, located at 311 west 34th St, between 8th & 9th aves, NYC, (212) 564-4882. It's a fairly small theatre with a few balconies, I saw Bjork and Bauhaus there, smaller then Roseland.

Irving Plaza, 17 Irving Place, at the corner of 15th Street and Irving Place, NYC is a fairly small venue and host to lots of small-medium following bands. Box office: 212-777-6800 Concert Hotline: (212) 777-1224.

Knitting Factory, 74 Leonard St. Bet. Broadway & Church, NYC is a small venue. They often have live real video/audio cybercasts of their shows on the website.

Life, 158 Bleecker St (At Thompson St) New York, NY. (212) 420-1999. Small venue, bands like Karen Black, The Creatures, The Human League, and Psychotica have played there.

Limelight, 47 W 20th St at 6th Avenue, NYC, 212-807-7059. The legendary former church & goth haven closed down for several years for drug busts, re-opened in the fall of 1998. It houses goth nights from time to time in the H.R. Giger room and goth & industrial bands play once in a while, the place is always closing and opening so check first.

Madison Square Garden, 7th Avenue between 33rd & 31st Streets, NYC. There isn't much of interest that happens at this stadium these days.

Roseland Ballroom - 231 West 52nd St. (Bet 8th Ave. & Broadway) NYC, (212) 249-8870. Semi Small place. I've seen Hole, Primus/Mike Watt, GWAR, KMFDM, and SOM there. The Citysearch page is much more usefull.

The Spiral - located at 244 East Houston Street, NYC. 4 doors East of Avenue A on the north side of Houston St. F train to 2nd Avenue station. They have signed and unsigned, national and local bands and artists.

Wetlands - 161 Hudson Street, between Hubert & Laight Sts NYC, 212-966-4225. Small venue, they have had some good up and coming underground bands in the past. Music includes reggae, punk, ska, gothic, deadhead.

The World - Inside WWF NY, 43rd & Broadway, NYC. They tend to have some metal & wwf related bands play, but some really good industrial & synthpop ones have played there (like Haujobb).
