New York City - Clubs & Bars

General NYC club guides

See also: New York Trips & Travel, Dark Eating

Don't forget to always check Citysearch or listen to 880 am (traffic on the 8s) or 1010 am (traffic on the 1s), there are parades way too often in the city and they really make traffic unbearable sometimes.

MasterSteelow.com - guide to New York City's fetish scene - Fetish parties, S&M events Pro-Dom's night clubs, dance Alternative, kink, adult private parties, vamp Goth Electro Industrial party, NYC, Forums chat boards, photo's, etc. I always liked the fetish crowds most, very interesting mix of mostly mature people, low drama, high creativity.

pmGotham - if I could motivate myself to get my butt out to a club these days, these are the places I'd go. In addition to listing the regular goth/industrial clubs of NYC, they list all the fetish, 80s, tranny, and gay and lesbian night clubs around the city. They even tell you what places to avoid. (This looks similar ot Fetish Planet, I'm not sure if they are related or what)

NYC Drag Nightclub listing

NYC Gothic Events page by Althea - I would say this is close to the best place to find out nyc happenings & clubs, I think she keeps it updated.

NYCgoth.com - guide to gothic NYC.

Fetish Planet NYC - great giude to fetish, goth, industrial, drag and related clubs, bars & eateries.

Steppin' Out Magazine - covers NY & NJ, very extensive listing of clubs & bars, great for finding an address if you know the name, no descriptions of the clubs are offered, also lists Broadway shows, comedy shows, and some other things.

Citysearch: New York - They have a great listing for NYC clubs, bars, restaurants, etc. The events are not always up to date for the club and event venues, but they do have accurate addresses for nearly every bar and club in NYC and they do list most of the current or recently diseased goth clubs. You can customize your own page to list all the clubs & bars you often frequent, and it gives details on each club/bar, the type, size, atmosphere, easiest ways to get there, maps, and even a list of nearby restaurants.

TES.org - a not-for-profit organization which promotes sexual liberation for all adults. Especially for people who enjoy consensual SM. I think it's based in NYC, they have events and meetings in NYC, NJ and surrounding areas.

Listing of BDSM clubs in NY

HX magazine's gay club listings - most of these are "strait friendly" too as long as you're not a dickhead, and boy do queens know how to party. This is a free magazine you can pick up in fetish and other related shops in Manhattan, or you can subscribe to it: 11 weeks for $39.95, 26 weeks for $109.95 and 52 weeks for $199.95 make check or money order payable to Two Queens Inc 230 West 17th Street 8thFloor NYC, NY 10011.

MotherNYC.com - The club closed down in June 2000 but the legends and parties still live on in other places, stay tuned to her site to keep track of the wildest drag, 80s, dress up, and fetish dance parties in town.

Sat. June 7th: Back To The 80's: Step through the doors of RAVEN this Saturday and step into Danceteria, The Peppermint Lounge, Club 57, Hurrahs and any of the great clubs from that magic era we call the 80's. Many DJ's spin "80's" but DJ "H"and DJ Raymond will transport you to what was going on in those legendary dance clubs. The music was wild and cutting edge and you could only hear it at the clubs. That's where Adam Ant was first heard. And Bow Wow Wow, and Duran Duran, and Gen X and so on. Believe it or not these bands were ignored by most radio (except WPIX- FM. The New 102). Anyway DJ's"H" and Raymond will make you feel like its 1984! Be there 10pm. No Cover

ELECTRIC DREAMS - every Monday at Korova Milk Bar, 200 Avenue A. btw. 12th and 13th Streets (6 train to Astor Place), 21+. Korova is a Clockwork-Orange-themed bar that I absolutely love despite the overprice chocolate martinis. I'm guessing this night is industrial & synth pop type music.

The Vault - BDSM club, 565 West 23rd Street, NYC, NY. Phone: (212) 255-6758.

Dark Themed Bars

Yaffa Cafe - 97 St. Marks Place Between Avenue A and First Avenue, NYC, 212-674-9302. Open 24-7 this is a favorite after goth club eatery, tacky decor, herbal teas, great Mediterranean food, great vegetarian selection. I think they do have some beer & wine but it's mostly a food place.

Raven Cafe - 194 Avenue A at East 12th St, NYC, I have a few listed but it's so hard to keep up with the different dj nights there, but almost any night you can go to this small bar/coffee place and chill at tables or couches to good tunes ranging from punk, new wave, goth, glam and any and every related genre. DJ's usually do their thing from 10-4, the bar opens at 1pm.

Meow Mix Bar - 269 E. Houston Street at Suffolk (between Aves. A-B), NYC. The Hottest Chick Bar in New York City. 212 254-0688. 21+ to enter, cover charge may apply sometimes. They have Xena night and Fraggle Rock night, lots of bands play here. In case you don't know, this is a gay bar.

Jekyll & Hyde Club - cute trendy horror themed restaraunt/bar, they have a lot of drinks with cute laboratory type names. Located at 1499 6th Ave bet 57 & 58th sts, NYC, (212) 541-9517. Hours: Sun-Tues 11:30am-12am; Wed 11am-12am; Thu 11:30am-12pm; Fri 11:30am-1am; Sat 10:30am-1am.

Jekyll and Hyde - 91 Seventh Avenue South Between Barrow and West Sts, NYC. Hours: Sun-Thu 12pm-2am; Fri-Sat 12pm-4am. bar & restaraunt, there was scareokie going on upstairs when I ate there, food & drinks overpriced.

Slaughtered Lamb Pub - Run by the same people who do the Jekyll & Hyde bars, it's also sort of spooky. 182 W 4th St. between Jones & Barrow Sts, NYC, 10014 (212) 627-5262.

Korova Milk Bar (designed after the milk bar in Clockwork Orange), Ave A. btwn 12th & 13th, NYC. This place has a really kewl atmosphere, good place to go with a group of friends. You can get in at any age, 21 to drink if they decide you look young enough to ID. Yummmmmy chocolate martini and others served in cool fishbowl glasses, some nights have goth & synth pop type djs, others it's just you and the jukebox.

Le Bar Bat - Despite it's cool name and big, cool bat outside, I think this place is best avoided if you are looking for something gothish, however it's next door to one of the spaces where Poe wrote The Raven. Celebrities pop in here supposedly, including Woody Harrelson, Brian Setzer, and Brooke Shields. Decor is supposedly spooky but it's full of a "bridge-and-tunnel" crowd.

Techno/Trendier Clubs

Webster Hall 125 East Eleventh Street NYC, 212-353-1600, They have 4 rooms going on, Thursday, Friday, & Saturday. I believe it's trendorama there.... though friday nights presently.
